Steve Backley OBE
Steve has a thorough understanding of many areas of media work. He has developed this over the past 20 years working both within and away from the sporting arena.
Initially he learned through working with some of the best presenters sport has ever seen including a corporate training video with the late and great Ron Pickering, presenting to and on behalf of Blue chip companies as well as working alongside all aspects of the media in the high profile pressure of the Olympic games. Steve is also now part of the BBC team presenting athletics.

Steve swapped his javelin for a microphone, joining the BBC 5 Live commentary team for athletics in 2005, including the European Cup in Florence, and the World Championships in Helsinki.
Steve said, ‘I am delighted to be part of the BBC sports team presenting athletics this summer. Having watched many of the great athletes of the 90’s retire in recent years, we are amidst a new era of British athletes. To have the opportunity to watch and comment first hand on the development of these athletes alongside the pro’s at the BBC is a great honour.’

“Your slides and speech were very good and gave a great insight into your preparation and what takes place in the lead up to major championships and during injury. And your sessions were very enjoyable, and gave me a lot of food for thought! Mainly that I WANT MORE!”
